Two other natural sites were extended upon IUCN's advice: Monte San Giorgio, from Switzerland to Italy, and Pirin National Park in Bulgaria. Reunion Island contains the most significant remaining natural habitats for the conservation of terrestrial biodiversity in the Mascarene Island Archipelago, including a range of rare forest type. I wish to concentrate on one issue among all those of major importance and sketch the topics that would be debated. It seems to me that when we consider what concrete actions should be taken in the next twenty years, we must look at the changes which will affect our country, our population and the countries surrounding us. On that basis, it is all too clear that the problem we will have to confront will be population growth. It is so common nowadays to hear : “In 2025 the (...)

We will be extremely surprised that the government of the French Republic would support such a decision. Cultural centers are, in our times, sites of debates, exchanges, mixing, multiculturalism and citizenship. We know the work of the scientific and cultural team of the MCUR led by Françoise Vergès, the quality of its work, its objectivity, its (...)

As has already been mentioned on several occasions, maloya is a constantly evolving and creative living practice. Its inclusion in the Representative List can only make its expansion more meaningful and enhance its legitimacy. (...)
The revitalization of maloya over the past 30-odd years has ensured its current visibility within the island and internationally. The methods of production of traditional instruments have been passed on to younger generations, and pupils learn these methods in arts and culture classes in primary, lower and upper secondary schools. Maloya thus plays an important role in the fields of music and culture in (...)

Long linked to ceremonies of ancestor worship, and confined to the sphere of the plantations and the housing for farm labourers and sugar-factory workers, it has been gradually moving into the public domain since the 1970s. It was used to convey political demands during the (...)
