Congress of the French colonies in Baku and call for the withdrawal of French troops from Kanaky New Caledonia

For a world without Western hegemony: Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Kanaky and Polynesia in the struggle

19 July 2024, by Manuel Marchal

While in France, eyes are focused on an unprecedented period of transition, parties from countries of America and Oceania under French sovereignty participated in the first Congress of the French colonies on July 17 and 18. Kanaky New Caledonia was on the agenda. During its press conference on July 17, the FLNKS called for the withdrawal of French soldiers from Kanaky New Caledonia and recalled the vision of a united and indivisible country following the remarks of an anti-independence leader claiming the separatism of the Southern Province where Nouméa is located.
A world that is being built without Western leaders, on the basis of a win-win partnership between China and the BRICS countries on the one hand, and developing countries on the other hand freeing themselves from Western influence on their foreign policy, their economy and their mentality.

On the eve of the election of the President of the National Assembly in France, the Popular Union for the Liberation of Guadeloupe and the Baku Initiative Group organized the first Congress of the French colonies. It was held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
Around fifteen organizations from Corsica, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Kanaky New Caledonia, Martinique and Polynesia make up the Baku Initiative Group. Caribbean delegations were also invited.
During this congress, the situation in Kanaky New Caledonia was discussed. Members of the Caledonian delegation recalled the repression targeting separatists and the impunity benefiting armed anti-independence activists who sow terror.
The French Colonies Congress opened on July 17. The same day, the FLNKS held a press conference. The majority party in the legislative elections in Kanaky New Caledonia asked Paris to withdraw the French troops responsible in particular for repression.
In Kanaky New Caledonia, the Caledonian Union announced the proclamation of the declaration of sovereignty on September 24, the anniversary of the annexation of the country by the French Empire, predecessor of the Republican regime.

No more need to trade with the West

Outside of Paris, where the Republican Front parties are struggling to define a common government program to counter the far right, events are accelerating.
The wind of emancipation blowing in several countries integrated into the Republic is part of the dynamics of a changing world.
A new era is dawning with the prospect of the return of China and India as the two leading world powers. Africa is the region in the world experiencing the fastest population growth. This will result in Madagascar having more than 50 million inhabitants in our region in 25 years.
A new world is being built through institutions such as BRICS, now extended to Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran, the African Continental Free Trade Area, RCEP, or the Forum of China-Africa cooperation.
The West is not the only potential partner of peoples under French sovereignty who want to become or become independent again. All needs for imported goods can be met through trade with BRICS and African countries. The same goes for foreign investments.

Consequences to be expected for Reunion

But during this time, news in La Reunion Island remains dominated by information from France. They give the image of political leaders who cannot work together. Ren cannot move, the policy implemented by the former majority continues.
However, there is another reality. It is that of a world that is being built without Western leaders, on the basis of a win-win partnership between China and the BRICS countries on the one hand, and developing countries on the other hand which are free themselves from Western control over their foreign policy, their economy and their mentality.
It is difficult to believe that the consequences of these events will not affect La Reunion Island. Indeed, the return to independence of Kanaky New Caledonia and Polynesia will leave Paris with Reunion Island as the only military base in the Southern Hemisphere. Our island could then become the pivot of the Indo-Pacific axis promoted by Paris to counter China. Would the people of La Reunion then agree to be at the service of a force against the construction of a world without Western hegemony?
